How to set up IPTV on an Apple TV

On tvOS the IPTV players are paid, and most work from an M3U playlist rather than the Xtream API. Once the playlist is loaded, the navigation is the best of any platform.

Step by step

  1. 1

Install iPlayTV from the Apple TV App Store

Search for "iPlayTV" in the store on the Apple TV itself and buy it. It is a one-off purchase, not a subscription.

  2. 2

    Add a remote playlist

Open the app, go to Playlists → Add Playlist, and choose "Remote Playlist File" or the URL option.

  3. 3

    Type the M3U URL

Paste the full M3U URL we sent you. When your iPhone offers to type it for you in a notification, accept: it avoids typing errors with the remote.

  4. 4

    Add the EPG URL

The playlist settings include a field for the programme guide (XMLTV). Paste the EPG URL that came with your credentials so the schedule appears.

  5. 5

    Save and let it load

The whole playlist downloads, so the first load takes longer than with Xtream Codes. Let it finish before opening a channel.

Worth knowing

iPlayTV is paid (a one-off App Store purchase) and is the one that works best on tvOS. Since setup happens with the remote, it is far quicker to type the URL from the iPhone keyboard when tvOS offers it.
